The motivation behind this release is to bring awareness about the devastating consequences of war in children as well as the need to give voice to young Ukrainian artists as a tool for hope. “The psychological impact of war in children and the generations to come is atrocious. Music is my voice. I decided that this was the right time to open the drawer and bring back to life this piece of music. I re-recorded and remixed some parts in the hopes of bringing support and in any way possible.

Speaking of this single, Ilfman said: “The piece was originally written a couple of years ago as a form of personal and emotional outlet and was not meant to be released in any way to the public. However, as the war in Ukraine went into its second week, I felt the urge to find a way to help those children and young generations that were forced to hide or to flee their home, leaving everything behind. In the midst of this devastation, what stroke me the most and has become an inspiration for me, is how many young Ukrainian artists manage to keep create art while war is happening around them”
Inspired by how creative one can be under horrific conditions, Ilfman stumbled across @iwashereforukraine an Instagram page led by a collective of artists who help collect funds to support victims of the war by selling art and NFTs.

For the release of the single, Ilfman has teamed up with L.A. based Kevin Kertes and his record label Gardener Recordings. The music is composed by Frank Ilfman, recorded and mixed by Casey Stone at RAK Studios in London with orchestral parts recorded at AIR Studios. Solo cello by Richard Harwood. Young Ukrainian artist Sofie Pugach, is the creator behind the cover art work. For this single, Sofie agreed to collaborate with Frank Ilfman by creating a version of her art piece “Hands away”. This art piece was originally created during the first week of the war.

Sofie wrote about it: “I’m scared. I feel anxious, fear. All that is happening around me is terrifying. At the same time, I feel confidence in my people, my nation. It is a really hard time for my country, for Ukraine,
but we will stand strong and resist this war! So my message is, HANDS AWAY from Ukraine! HANDS AWAY FROM MY HOME!"
Sofie Pugach @sk_of_me is currently sheltering in the east part of Ukraine.

All proceeds from any sale are in support of the Voices of Children Foundation.
